30/30, day 1

A very happy new year to you!

Yay!

The holidays are over, and back into our regular flow we go. I'll be kicking off the year with a new project: 30 Paintings, 30 Days. Running concurrently with my jewelry practice, I simply want to satisfy my painting cravings, develop my skills, and nurture more useful approaches.

I really want to let go. Last year I discovered that my best paintings, and including my very enjoyment of painting, came from not thinking too much about it. It came from simply being present to the action; committing to the flow of the process. I'm pretty sure the rest of my practice and life would improve with this approach, which takes practice.

I hope you enjoy the journey!
May your 2017 be glorious. Grow well.

I'm always amazed by how paintings take on the life of wherever I'm at. My brother, Kirika, had a look at this and gave me an interpretation that resounded deeply with me. He felt it was the journey of the figure from a place of happiness where much was happening, into some other place. He was vague about this other place, as he described it as simply "other, neither good nor bad". I asked, could that grey (or other) represent an unknown? He agreed. The figure seemed busy in its mind, surrounded by a buzz of thoughts both good and bad, but their nature seems irrelevant compared to their cacophony.

I paused, and saw myself in transition. He may have seen his own as well.
