I . A M . M O U N T A I N

Inspired by the Sappeur of Congo, mountain imagery grew prominent in this project. It called to mind the mineral exploitation of the land, and the colonial legacies attached to this exploitation. More than this, these mountains came as a statement, I AM HERE. More than these histories, I point to the bones that endure beyond the history. It is a symbol for that which outlasts, endures, and must be cherished. The mountain is a fetish symbolising that which must be preserved, must be cherished, which endured this history.⁣
