Back in the flow of Painting!

Letting go the procrastination, and endless plans made and unmet, I finally sank into the ease and joy of painting again. This was also inspired by an artist friend of mine, Agnes Waruguru (who I’m also collaborating with on some jewellery), who pointed out some acetate in my studio and noted how lovely it would be to paint on it. This was something I’d been meaning to do for so long, so decided to juuuuust do it.

It was so lovely, sinking into that inner quiet space; getting drawn into the mark-making, the unfolding and development; becoming intrigued by all the branching avenues that fork out with each decision, and new experiments that beckon with each new branch.

As it is at the moment, I’m exploring layered acetate, painting abstract forms in ink, utilising this layering, pattern, colour, and obstruction. The forms have immediately taken on natural and detailed forms that remind me of fungus. I’m not sure where it’s unfolding, but I’ll simply enjoy the ride.

My hope is to enjoy a much more consistent painting practice, framing as I go along, and see where this unfolds.
